A Wilson County man is facing six charges in connection with a fatal crash in Pitt County that killed an Ayden man earlier this month, WCTI 12 reports.
Myles Evans was arrested on October 17, a week after the collision on Stokestown-St. Johns Road, just north of Highway 102. Troopers say Evans was driving a pickup south around 9 a.m. on October 10 when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound truck.
The other driver, 50-year-old Brian Sumerlin of Ayden, died in the crash. Evans was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the arrest warrant, Evans was driving while impaired, and the alleged offense was the proximate cause of Sumerlin’s death.
The charges are felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, driving with a license revoked for an impaired driving offense, having an open alcohol container after drinking, reckless driving and driving left of center.
Evans is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, October 19.
