A 68-year-old Bradenton man died Saturday afternoon after his SUV veered off a Sarasota County road and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was driving a blue Chevrolet Traverse north on Saddle Creek Trail, north of State Road 72, also known as Clark Road, about 12:45 p.m. Saturday, troopers said. He may have experienced a medical episode behind the wheel.

The SUV drifted to the right, left the roadway, crossed a ditch and hit a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and no other vehicles were involved, the patrol said.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported the crash.
