A 29-year-old motorcyclist from Pageland, South Carolina, was killed on Saturday evening when his motorcycle collided with a Jeep pickup truck in West Melbourne, Florida.
The crash happened at about 9:23 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 511, known locally as South John Rodes Boulevard, and Pummelo Street in West Melbourne, Brevard County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2027 Jeep Gladiator pickup truck was stopped in the northbound lane of County Road 511 when its driver attempted a left turn and moved directly into the path of a southbound 2007 Suzuki SV650 motorcycle.
Investigators said the motorcyclist was traveling above the posted speed limit and tried to brake before the collision. The right side of the pickup truck struck the right side of the motorcycle.
Emergency responders took the 29-year-old rider, who was wearing a helmet, to Melbourne Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The patrol did not release his name.
The driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old Melbourne man, was not injured and remained at the scene. The patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
