A 17-year-old boy from Bunnell has died after the sport utility vehicle he was driving rolled over in Flagler County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, on Pine Street north of Pecan Avenue in an unincorporated community known as Daytona North, or the Mondex, west of Bunnell.
The highway patrol said the SUV was traveling south on Pine Street when the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle and drove onto the east shoulder of the road. He then overcorrected to the right, which caused the SUV to roll over.
The 17-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old boy from Bunnell who was a passenger in the SUV was injured. Two other passengers, women aged 19 and 21 from Palm Coast, were not hurt. The vehicle ended up on its roof, blocking the road.
The highway patrol said none of the four people in the SUV was wearing a seatbelt. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal, which first reported the story, credited the Florida Highway Patrol for the details.
