A Yale University employee was shot during a suspected carjacking attempt in New Haven, Connecticut, early on Tuesday morning, the university’s police department said.

Yale police said the shooting happened around 4 a.m. in the area of Canner Street and St. Ronan Street. The victim, a man in his 30s from East Haven, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. Police described his condition as stable.

The university described the suspect as a male wearing a black ski mask. The New Haven Police Department is investigating the shooting. A Channel 3 crew at the scene saw police vehicles and crime scene tape blocking off the street early Tuesday morning, and investigators could be seen swabbing a vehicle.

The Foote School in New Haven announced a two-hour delay on Tuesday because of the investigation. The school told its community that classes would start at 10 a.m. and that all buses would be delayed two hours.

The crime scene was cleared later in the morning, WFSB reported. Police have released no other details, and the investigation is ongoing.
