A homicide suspect wanted over the fatal shooting of a convenience store clerk in Seattle has been arrested in Chicago, police said.

Michael Oneal Fleming, 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday evening by members of the United States Marshals Service. The arrest was made without incident, the Seattle Police Department said in an update on the SPD Blotter.

Fleming is believed to have shot and killed a 36-year-old employee at a 76 gas station in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood in the early hours of October 13. Officers were called to the store at 351 Broad Street at about 5:52 a.m. after reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the victim behind the counter, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics from the Seattle Fire Department pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators said a suspect dressed all in black had entered the store, walked up to the counter and shot the clerk before leaving on foot. The department later identified the suspect as Fleming and warned the public that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Earlier on Tuesday, detectives had asked for the public’s help in finding him, saying anyone who spotted him should call 911 and not approach him. He was described as a black male of heavy build, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, who at the time of the shooting wore a black hoodie, a black coat, black trousers and a black crossbody bag.

The original investigation drew a large response, including Interim Chief Sayles, Assistant Chief Brown and Assistant Chief Powell, along with the Homicide and Assault Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit. The case is logged as incident number 2026-305599 with the West Precinct.

Police continue to ask anyone with information about the October 13 shooting to contact the Seattle Police Department’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
