Jess E. Schroyer, 45, of Mill Run was killed Tuesday night when the car he was driving ran off Springfield Pike in Connellsville Township, struck a tree and a utility pole, and caught fire, state police said.
Schroyer was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze north on Springfield Pike just after 10 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a slight left-hand curve, according to state police at Uniontown. The car left the roadway, hit a tree, continued about 65 more feet, and sheared a utility pole.
The vehicle caught fire after the impact. When firefighters arrived, the car was fully engulfed in flames. Schroyer died at the scene.
Firefighters from Connellsville Township, New Haven and Normalville responded to the crash, along with Fayette EMS, West Penn Power and Taxacher Specialities. No other injuries were reported.
State police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, The Daily Courier reported.
