Early on Sunday morning, November 1, 2026, eight people were shot in Bloomington, Illinois, in the 100 block of East Division Street, near Illinois Wesleyan University.

Bloomington police officers were called to the area on a report of several shots fired and found the victims when they arrived, according to police spokesman Bryce Janssen.

A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County Coroner. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin, and an autopsy is pending.

Another woman was taken to a regional trauma center and is listed in critical condition. The six other victims sustained injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Illinois State Police and the McLean County Sheriff’s Office helped Bloomington police with the crime scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police say the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Police asked anyone who was there or lives nearby to review any security camera, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage they may have. The area of interest is Center Street to Franklin Avenue and Emerson Street to Apple Street. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bloomington Police Department.

Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady said the city extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who died, thanked police, fire and emergency personnel for their quick response, and said the police department is actively investigating and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

The shooting happened less than a mile from another shooting in Normal earlier this year, in which six people were shot near the Illinois State University campus in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue in March.

The details in this report were published according to WCIA (WMBD).
