Three men were shot in Northwest Baltimore on Monday afternoon, and one of them has died, police said. The shooting happened in the Franklintown neighborhood, on the 5200 block of Muth Avenue.
Baltimore police were called to the scene just before 4:30 p.m. Officers found a 24-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, and a 39-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. All three were taken to a local hospital, where the 24-year-old was pronounced dead. The other two remained hospitalized with their injuries.
Police have not said how the shooting started. Around two dozen evidence cones were placed behind the buildings on the block, and more cones extended into the roadway. Police blocked off part of the street and redirected traffic through the parking lots of nearby businesses.
The stretch of shops includes a gas station, a former Subway restaurant, a nail spa, a Royal Farms store, and the Tola Taste of Africa Buka restaurant. Tola Dauda, who owns the restaurant and has operated there for four years, said she did not hear the gunshots while she was in the kitchen. A customer called to check on her, and she then noticed police cars and ambulances flooding the area.
Dauda said she waited for four or five customers who had already placed orders, including one who was still on the way to pick up 15 bowls of jollof rice. She told The Baltimore Banner that fear is growing among local businesses. “This place has been in fear. We fear for our business,” she said. She added that she worries the shooting will drive customers away, noting that some businesses, like the Subway, have already left.
Police have not named any suspects and have reported no arrests. The shooting is the latest in a string of multi-victim shootings in Baltimore this month. On Sunday night, five people were shot at a BP gas station on Edmondson Avenue, and two of them died. Earlier in the week, four people were shot on the 3500 block of East Lombard Street, two fatally. About a week earlier, four young men were shot in Winchester, and two of them died.
The Baltimore Banner first reported the details from a police news release.
