Accuracy, attribution and context
We prioritize primary sources, including official records, direct agency statements, court filings and on-the-record reporting. We identify sources as specifically as safety and ethics allow, distinguish allegations from established facts, and avoid implying guilt before adjudication.
Developing reports
Breaking reports are explicitly marked as developing. We state what is confirmed, what remains unknown and when information was last updated. Initial information can be incomplete; we revise stories when credible reporting or official documentation warrants it.
Harm minimization
We avoid gratuitous graphic descriptions, do not identify minors or vulnerable people unless there is a compelling public interest, and handle victims, families and communities with care. Emergency services—not Inciding—should be contacted in an emergency.
Editorial accountability
Writers and editors are accountable for their work. Material corrections are made promptly and visibly. See our Corrections Policy for how to raise a concern.
