Baltimore police shut down part of Belair Road on Wednesday night after a shooting in the city’s Belair-Edison neighborhood left at least one person with gunshot wounds.
Officers found the victim in the 3200 block of Belair Road, one of the busiest corridors in east Baltimore. Medics were seen talking with the injured person, who gestured toward the 3100 block of the road.
That is where Eastern District detectives focused on a house, and police later expanded the crime scene to include it. The officer overseeing overnight activity led the medics toward a nearby ambulance as the investigation grew.
Soon after, one of the officers was hurt while helping search for evidence. An ambulance transported the officer to a local hospital, according to WBFF Fox 45 Baltimore.
Investigators also established a second crime scene in the 3200 block of Belair Road, where bullets had struck the front door of a pizza shop.
The discovery comes just three days after police responded to gunfire in the same area. Early Sunday morning, investigators examined rifle rounds inside a crime scene near Clifton Park Terrace and Harwell Avenue, the station reported.
Fox 45 said it was working to gather additional information about Wednesday night’s shooting.
