One student died and another was injured in a shooting on Monday morning at Atlanta Technical College, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Officers went to 1560 Metropolitan Parkway SW at about 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 19 after receiving reports of a person shot. When they arrived, they found a male student dead inside a bathroom. Police believe the wound was self-inflicted.
A second student was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance and was alert, conscious and breathing, investigators said.
Atlanta police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said there was no active threat to the surrounding community. An alert sent to the Atlanta Metropolitan State College community also said there was no known threat to that campus, though students and staff could expect more police officers at the neighboring Atlanta Technical College.
The circumstances remain under investigation. Police stressed that their findings are early and could change as more evidence is gathered. Officers have not released the names or ages of the two students involved. FOX 5 Atlanta first reported this story.
